Given the significant advancements in robotics technology, it is now widely recognized that robots can play a crucial role in enhancing human activities. Recently, one of our clients approached us with a unique request to control a Boston Dynamics robot from a customized application on a separate tablet, distinct from the master tablet included with the robot for control. The objective was to enable an operator to execute primary actions from the master tablet and then transfer control to a second tablet to perform specific actions programmed in the custom app.

As there were four Boston Dynamics robots, spread across various locations worldwide, we needed a remote device manager solution to collect real-time data from all connected devices. This would simplify the job of the support team and streamline their efforts.

The challenge

To tackle the challenge, we proposed connecting all devices, including tablets and robots, to a private network. This would enable us to remotely control them in real-time using our Mango Remote Device Manager. Furthermore, we planned to integrate the new application with our Omnichannel Communication Platform to send notifications based on specific app parameters. This integration enhanced the user experience and reduced support requirements by providing real-time updates and alerts.

To meet the challenge presented by our client, MangoSoft first tackled the task of customizing the robots to reflect the client's brand identity. This involved completely disassembling the robots and then changing the colors of each piece to match the client's corporate colors. Once this was completed, we reassembled all the pieces to ensure the robots were fully operational and met the client's specifications

To ensure constant internet connectivity for support and monitoring purposes, MangoSoft set up a private network with a 4G router that connects the two tablets and the robot. These devices remain connected at all times and transmit technical information to our real-time databases. Using this data, we developed a system that integrates all the devices on the same platform, including the robots from the four geographic regions.

In addition, we included functions that allow for remote actions on devices, such as restarting the tablet system or sending commands to the robot to perform a pre-defined task. These features enable efficient and effective management of the devices, even when technical issues arise.

To reduce the risk of malfunctioning, we developed an application for the tablet with autorecover functionality. In case of unavailability of services or real-time information, the application can automatically diagnose and restart its services to ensure that it is always working according to specifications.

Finally, we integrated our Omnichannel Communication System, which directly sends information required by the client, such as alerts and photos, through channels such as email, Whatsapp, and SMS. This amplifies the functionality of the system and provides clients with the reassurance that they can report any issues to the appropriate people.
